Xmas cheer

by: Romany Howes (15 December 2008)

I don’t know about you, but Xmas will be a welcome break. With all the doom and gloom surrounding the economy at the moment, I think we will all benefit from a bit of extravagant excess over the holidays. However, work is a major concern for the majority of us, and redundancies are on the cards for many people. Here, at Writeitclearly.com, we are luckily inundated with work and one of the reasons is that companies are recognising the need for quality to set them above the competition. This quality comes in many shapes and forms but what has emerged is the importance of correctly spelt, grammatically accurate literature.

One major company lost a huge contract because the literature was riddled with spelling errors and it made the client wonder about the level of care that would be offered to them. “If the company can’t even be bothered to get its own promotional literature correct, then why would it care about us?” was the comment from the client. Any company in any sector needs to present itself as a professional and reputable entity and ensuring that all written work is correctly checked by an expert, is an excellent investment.

It is a learned skill to spot mistakes – some are more obvious than others – but to maintain a presence in business, you need to be better than the rest. And this is where promotion and marketing can be invaluable. Having your literature written and/or checked by a professional serves two purposes:

  • any spelling and grammatical errors can be amended, and
  • a third party will read your literature objectively

Remember, you may be a world expert in your field but you have to be able to communicate the message to your client base.

So have an excellent Xmas holiday, and I hope that we all enjoy a healthy and prosperous New Year, whatever it may bring.
