Morrissey's first book slammedby: Romany Howes (2 December 2015)Along with numerous others, back in the 80s I was a huge Smiths fan, with Morrissey posters adorning the walls in many a student house. Loved for his lyrics and tunes, the great man has picked up yet another award, this time for his first novel, List of the Lost. Before you congratulate him, however, read on. Bad SexMorrissey, is the 23rd winner of the Bad Sex In Fiction Award. He is in good company, as past winners include Norman Mailer and Tom Wolfe! According to the press reports, this is "awarded by the Literary Review magazine to spotlight 'poorly written, perfunctory or redundant' passages of sexual description". In fact, critics have been cruel: an "unpolished turd of a book, the stale excrement of Morrissey's imagination" was one description. The phrase "bulbous salutation" came in for particular criticism. If you've done better, send it to WriteItClearly.com for proofreading. Incidentally, Morrissey did not attend the glittering ceremony. Views: 1999 Other articles on Proofreading and Miscellaneous |
