What book will be on your Christmas list?

by: Garry Pierrepont (31 October 2017)

The book charts are nowhere near as revered as the music charts . . . used to be (though not so much these days). And that's a shame. Imagine if there was as much clamour to be Christmas Number One in the book charts, rather than the music charts. Not as much clamour, not as much glamour, I guess.

The current number one in the Waterstones Fiction Chart is Dan Brown's Origin. It would be no surprise if that were to still top the charts come Christmas week.

I have four books on my Christmas list so far – they are an easy present to buy, within most people's budget, and easy to obtain, either in the book store or online.

I have my personal favourite authors – Peter James, Harlan Coben, Peter Robinson, Lindood Barclay among them – but I often say, 'any book will do', as I try to encompass reading from many different genres.

Top of the non-fiction charts is Jamie Oliver's 5 Ingredients – Quick & Easy Food, followed by autobiographies by Bruce Dickinson and Jenson Button. (Auto-)biographies are perennially popular, as is the book of Guinness World Records at this time of year.

Get thinking – what book will be on your Christmas list this year?
